What are the differences between the TimberKing sawmill models? back to top
TimberKing offers four different portable sawmill models to serve four very different needs.
The 1220 is a "weekend warrior" mill, ideally suited to small, occasional cutting projects at home, on the farm, or at a hunting or fishing camp. The 1220 produces beautiful lumber, but because it is a fully manual mill, it doesn't provide the productive capacity of our larger mills.
The 1600 is for the sawyer who needs more productive capacity than the fully-manual 1220 but doesn't need the high production of an industrial mill. The 1600's automated features - hydraulic power feed, hydraulic blade up/down and available hydraulic log loaders - dramatically increase production over manual mills.
TimberKing's classic B-20, is the choice of custom sawyers, log home builders and anyone who's planning on using their mill as part of a full-time business venture. The B-20 is fully automated for significant production: hydraulic power feed, automatic blade up/down, hydraulic log loaders, hydraulic log turner, hydraulic log dog and hydraulic tow boards.
Our newest mill, the 2400, is our biggest, most powerful machine, made especially for high-end, super-professional operations that require all the capacity they can get. With the 2400's huge 34" throat and jumbo 36" and beyond cutting capacity, you go into any job knowing your mill can handle it. Plus, lots of local circle mills won't take logs this big - so prices on huge logs can be low… yet the wood that comes out of them is worth just as much!
Perhaps most important, both the B-20 and 2400 come standard with a computer board thickness control. That means you get perfectly dimensioned lumber, board after board after board. No other manufacturer we know of provides this crucial feature as standard on their industrial mills.
What is a four-post cutting head? back to top
A four-post cutting head is supported from both sides of the sawmill, eliminating the head sag common to cantilever designs. Long-run accuracy is excellent with the four-post head. "Side angle" or "clapboard" cuts are impossible. All TimberKing mills feature a four-post cutting head.
What is a cantilever cutting head? back to top
Cantilever designs hang the blade out over the log. The blade is suspended from one side of the head and counter-weighted by the engine. Because the blade is held from only one side, it can bounce or sag while cutting. Cutting head can also be damaged or lose adjustment during transport. Manufacturers of cantilever mills do offer a special support to prop up the unsupported side during travel.
How many board feet can I cut in a day with a TimberKing portable sawmill? back to top
That's a good question, but it's also very difficult to answer precisely. Why? Because the board feet you cut in a day is affected by many different factors. Some of these are:
Type of mill you're using. An industrial mill will cut more than a personal mill.
Size of logs you're cutting. If you have bigger logs, you will get significantly more production.
Thickness and width of boards you're cutting. If you're cutting wide, thick boards you'll have to make fewer cuts to cut up your log. That means you'll be able to cut more logs in a day.
These variables are the reason we give such a broad range of possible daily production for each mill. If you are cutting tiny logs into thin strips, you might get production below the range we give. On the other hand, if you're cutting sizable logs into beams for a barn, your production would likely exceed the figures we give.
Why should I compare warranties? back to top
Every sawmill manufacturer is going to tell you they make the best mill out there. So how do you separate the wheat from the chaff?
One good way is by comparing warranties. That's where you'll get the REAL story about toughness and reliability. A company that trusts its machines will back them up. And if they don't trust their machines, should you?
Only TimberKing backs your mill with a Buyer Protection Program like this:
30 Day Money-Back Guarantee ON ALL MODELS.
2-Year Limited Mechanical Warranty ON ALL MODELS.
5-Year Limited Cutting Deck Warranty ON ALL MODELS.
So if you're comparing sawmills, be sure to compare warranties. That's where you'll get the real story about quality and reliability.
Why does TimberKing offer the best Buyer Protection Plan in the business? back to top
With seventy-five years in the sawmill business, we've learned that our customers are our best sales-people. If we take care of customers and keep them happy, we sell more machines. So we have a very powerful motive for standing behind our equipment.
Can TimberKing help me get started in business? back to top
Yes. Our booklet, "How to Make Money with a Portable Sawmill" provides lots of hands-on advice about getting started right in business. It's available on this site. Or, if you'd like us to send you a copy, just call us at 1-800-942-4406, or E-mail us at info@timberking.com.
The TimberKing Sawmill Registry puts you at the finger-tips of over 65,000 woodworkers! TimberKing works closely with Woodmaster Tools, whose over 65,000 owners are all serious woodworkers. When a Woodmaster owner in your area calls looking for good rough-cut lumber, we'll give them your name and number!
How long has TimberKing been in business? back to top
TimberKing is a direct descendant of the Belsaw Machinery Company, founded in 1929. In 1977, the Belsaw family firm was sold to the Foley Company and became Foley/Belsaw. When the sawmill division of Foley/Belsaw came up for sale in 1992, John Miller, a member of the founding family, brought it back into the family and renamed it TimberKing.
How can I see a TimberKing portable sawmill in action? back to top
There are four ways you can see a TimberKing mill in action.
First, you can request a FREE video tape or DVD of the TimberKing models you're most interest in. This is easily done - in fact you can do it directly from this site. Or just give us a call at 1-800-942-4406 and we'll get it right out. This video will answer lots of questions, but it might also bring new ones to mind.
At that point, we suggest you visit a TimberKing owner in your area. Just give us a call at 1-800-942-4406 and one of our sales-people will give you the name and phone number of an owner near you. You can also E-mail us at info@timberking.com. If you email us, please be sure to include your zip code and which models you're most interested in.
Another way to meet a TimberKing owner and "kick the tires" its to attend one of our open-houses. These happen several times a year, across the country, at the homes of TimberKing owners. Attending an open-house gives you the opportunity to meet one-on-one with factory representatives, see a TimberKing mill under actual working conditions and meet with one or more actual TimberKing owners.
Or you can visit our offices in Kansas City. If you live in the Northeast, you can visit our dealer in upstate New York. Either way, we're always glad to have "walk in" customers. We won't put on a "hard sell." We'll just show you our equipment and answer your questions. If possible, it's best to call ahead. This way we can be sure to have all the equipment you're interested in on hand.
By the way, you probably won't find us at your local farm show or county fair. Over the years, we've found that these shows are so crowded that we spend most of our time doing "crowd control." As a result, we ended up ignoring you, our potential customer. So in the last few years we've concentrated our efforts on meeting you where there's time to go over the equipment with you, answer your questions and give you the one-on-one attention you deserve. So far, folks have seemed to appreciate this approach. We hope you do too!
Does TimberKing offer financing? back to top
Yes. We have our own in-house financing program. When you request information on TimberKing mills, we will automatically send out information on our financing program. If you'd rather work through a leasing company, we can point you to several who are familiar with us and our equipment
What's the TimberKing Blade System? back to top
The term "blade system" refers to blade and lubricant working together to produce the best possible cuts while minimizing stress on blades and machine. The TimberKing Blade System offers three different blades and two different lubricants. The combination of the right blade with the right lubricant provides vastly superior performance to old fashioned, one-blade, water-drip systems.
Can I use the TimberKing Blade System if I don't own a TimberKing mill? back to top
Yes. TimberKing carries several standard blade lengths to fit commonly-sold mills. TimberKing lubricants will work with most commonly-sold lubrications systems.
What about sharpening and setting my blades? back to top
Sharp, properly-set teeth are the most important part of any blade. TimberKing offers a complete line of sharpeners and setters to provide easy, consistent sharpening and setting. If you're not ready to invest in a sharpener and setter, TimberKing's Resharp Program offers excellent sharpening and setting services.
Are TimberKing salespeople on commission? back to top
No. And because of that, our sales-people aren't looking to make a "quick sale." They honestly want to help you make the best decision in a sawmill. This is what they're paid to do. We feel that the best way to make sure you become a satisfied customer is to be straightforward from the start. We give our sales-people the freedom to do that.
